Content Entrepreneur Caught in Another Trap
It’s hard not to compare yourself to others.
It’s natural to look at the successful people you follow and compare your current status or achievements to theirs.
This is fine if it’s to give you something to aspire to as long as you only look to them as a model to follow.
This is harmful when you forget to consider their journey and only look at their current level of success.
This phenomenon is called the "Comparison Trap".
The Comparison Trap can lead to feelings of inadequacy, envy, and stunted growth or progress due to discouragement.
It can be particularly detrimental in fields like content marketing, where uniqueness and authenticity are highly valued.
We must remind ourselves that every successful person started just like us.
Every success story has a starting point, often filled with challenges and failures. Being aware of this is essential if you want to overcome the Comparison Trap.
Overcoming this trap often involves focusing on your own progress, learning from others (without negatively comparing), and understanding that success as a content entrepreneur doesn't come overnight. It comes through consistent effort and learning.
Remember...
Famous people didn't start famous
Most billionaires didn't start as billionaires.
Content entrepreneurs didn’t start with millions of followers.
Each of these examples likely started in a similar place to where you are now.
I've found it helpful to read biographies and watch historical or biographical documents about how successful people got their start.
It’s eye-opening and encouraging to see the challenges and failures they had to push through to get to where they are today.
I love Jordan Peterson’s advice on dealing with the comparison trap.
He says, “Compare Yourself To Who You Were Yesterday, Not To Who Someone Else Is Today.”
I can’t improve on his advice. So, this is what I will leave you with for today.
Wherever you are in your journey…
Each day is a blessing from God.
Make the most of today by taking one small step forward. These small steps will compound and lead you closer to the level of growth, progress, and success you seek.
Until next time.
